Inventory Slots

Inventory slots describe storage capacity—how much can a thing carry without being overwhelmed?

Anything that can hold, carry, or contain objects can make use of inventory slots—for example:

Bulk

Objects and creatures use bulk to describe how much space they fill—the bulkier the object or creature, the more space occupied.

Bulk represents the effort needed by a medium-sized creature to carry an object based on its size, weight, and shape. The more awkward or uncomfortable it is to hold an object, the higher its bulk.

Bulk Table

Size Category Bulk Size Weight
Tiny 1 nook You can hold dozens of these in one hand. Unnoticeable.
Small 1 pocket You can hold many of these in one hand. Trivial.
Medium 1 slot Anywhere from a handspan to just longer than an arm. Can be held with one hand or more comfortably with two. Up to 10 lbs.
Large 2 slots Up to the height of an average person. Requires two hands to hold. Up to 35 lbs.
X-Large 3 slots Up to the height of two people. Requires two hands to hold. Up to 70 lbs.

Your Inventory

Your inventory is made of four separate containers:

Unless noted, all gear besides typical clothing fills one gear slot. Gear that is hard to transport might fill more than one slot. See the Item Bulk List for examples.

What about the carrying capacity of PCs of a different size than Medium?

The bag of a Small PC has an amount of slots equal to half your Strength ability score or 5, whichever is higher. For Large PCs, your bag has an amount of slots equal to your Strength ability score or 15, whichever is higher.
